  • To guarantee laboratory scale production of eco-friendly bleached natural fibres that substitutes current Soda hydrogen peroxide with similar bleaching efficiency and to implement it at the pilot scale  
  • To develop an efficient and eco-friendly biopolymer (lignin) extraction method from shives (as by product of low cost from flax and hemp plants) for further use in fabrics and sensor padding  
  • To functionalise natural fibres and lignin to achieve responsive flax/hemp fibre to external stimulus allowing conductive tracks within e-textile and morphing features  
  • To ensure the compatibility of lignin for flexible composite and fabrics  
  • To develop the optimised formulation for composite padding in view of damping, eclectic and water transfer

  • To implement standard tests at different scales to deeply characterise the fibres, preforms and composites using lab-scale and large instruments to achieve zero-defect products 
  • To implement specific investigations through scientific in-situ and multi-scale protocols to fully evaluate textile performances including breathability, electric, thermal, and mechanical performance
  • To assess the durability of the WP3/4/7 biobased materials and demonstrators under accelerated aging conditions and relevant environments 
  • To ensure reproducibility and reliability of the properties generated in the project for industrial use with well characterised uncertainty 
  • To evaluate the performance of the proof of concepts, in uncontrolled and controlled conditions

  • To develop AI-assisted fabric components sorting technique to separate synthetic and natural component and      improve sorting efficiency 
  • To prototype highly customised components with natural fibre-based composite filament by additive manufacturing 
  • To ensure degradability investigation of natural fibre-based fabric & composite materials under different environmental conditions including normed trials, which qualifies the fabrics degradability. 
  • To optimise biobased polymer content for best printability and high mechanical performance 
  • To develop a waste fabric recycling method for new fabric uses
